I dislike optimism and the ways in which it provides a salve over the the more brute facts of existence. Often, I’ve seen optimism work as an anesthetic in minimizing the ways in which others suffer.

These are the first songs I’ve written and recorded in about fifteen years. Coming out of a long spell of writer’s block, (with support from friends) I found some songs that I thought were OK.

Thank you to the friends who heard the early versions of the songs and gave me feedback on them: Ryan, (Dr.) Ryan, Al, Eric, and Tom. Thank you to Matt and Kevin who came out and heard some of these songs live a few years ago.

 Finally: thank you, Minerva, for listening first to these songs years ago and then to the recorded mixes in the car.
